Uni We Love: In their 27-20 victory over the San Diego Chargers at Lambeau Field on Sunday afternoon, the Green Bay Packers sported  alternate Navy and Yellow home jerseys. No stripes, no emblems, no problem. Just two blocks of vivid color, numbers, and names. Oh, and the best quarterback in the NFL. That always helps too.

Team of the Week: Our Team of the Week is the recently crowned Florida District 2 Little League Champions, winners of the Senior Softball Sectionals. In honor of the passing of Mr. Yogi Berra, we’re making the Yankee Pinstripes our uniform of the week.

Mr. Berra, known both for his prowess on the diamond and his way with words, was a towering figure not just in the world of sports but in the culture at large. 

Some of our favorite Yogi-isms: "The future aint what it used to be." 

"If the world were perfect, it wouldn’t be." 

"When you come to a fork in the road, take it." 

Yogi had a penchant for turns of phrase that seemed silly at first glance, but revealed some deep knowledge about the hidden nature of the world upon further reflection. We salute him.

They've Got the World on Their Shoulders

At press time, the Little League World Series was in high gear in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Eight United States teams and eight international teams began the double elimination tournament on August 21^st, after being postponed one day by rain, and the local heroes hailing from Lewisberry, PA were still firmly in the mix heading into the semifinals on Saturday the 29th. 

Seen here celebrating one of their victories, Red Land Little League Baseball was considered by many to be the hometown favorites, playing just two hours north of their Harrisburg-area home base. 

Perhaps the pinnacle of all of youth sports, the LLWS is an annual tradition we cherish around here at Team Sports Planet. It helps us remember all the good things about youth sports and why we enjoy helping athletes from all over the world get what they need to compete.

From Throwbacks to Throw Back On

 By now you guys know or heard at times that thirty is the new twenty, forty is the new thirty so on and so on. Who's to say that cant apply to sports uniforms? I mean we all know/seen some hideous uniforms in our times but something about retro jerseys just jump out at you. I think its a good time to go back to the basics. With all the new technology and fabrics we came across within the years, I believe its starting to be one big smoke screen that we all are starting to get lost in. Don't get me wrong new is always nice but with new comes a lot of busyness and overload unlike throwbacks. Which I like to think throwbacks style jerseys are like an artist who lives by the saying "Less is More."

Hi, I'm Karina Fraley for Expert Village and today we're talking about enrolling your child in little league. Once you've enrolled you child, you're going to have to get a uniform. You can buy a little league uniform through one of the vendors that the little league organization works with. You are going to have to purchase your own and there are a few options, they're not tons of options but there are I think 3 different lettering options and you can have a cap and socks and visors that can be ordered as well. The packages are pretty reasonably priced. A shirt and a hat could be bought for about $25 and they do go up from there. But that would just be something that your individual team determines what your uniform would be and where you would get it from. So again, you are responsible for providing your child's uniform so don't be surprised once you enroll, that is going to be an added expense.

Hi, I'm Karina Fraley for Expert Village and today we're talking about little league. Once you've enrolled your child and you've filled out all of your forms and everything is ready to go, you're going to want to pick up the uniform. You want to really encourage your child to be very respectful of the uniform. It always has to look neat and clean at the start of a game even though it doesn't end up that way normally by the end of a game. But really install in your child a sense of pride little league is a staple of Americana and it really needs to be treated with respect. So when you're done playing the game, make sure that your child if they're old enough and do their own laundry that they wash their uniform quickly and if not be sure that you do that. That you remove any grass stains, that you wash it as directed so that next time your child goes out to play in the uniform they'll show up looking nice and neat and doing the uniform proud.

I’m into team uniforms, team sports, and I like to peruse coach’s blogs from time to time. While I’m hardly an expert on the subject of coach’s blog’s, I can say with good authority that there are a lot of horrible ones out there. Many times, people will just throw up a few softball drills or the like, and expect you to buy their DVD series on “Coaching Youth Athletes” for only 5 easy payments of $19.95.

That’s why when I first came across The Little League Coach.com, I found it so refreshing. While there is absolutely nothing wrong with using a blog to market whatever it is you do, I sincerely believe that first you should have valuable content, and then you can try and sell whatever your heart desires.

And that’s where this blog really comes through for me, content. This blog is stuffed full of informative, and sometimes entertaining articles on all aspects of coaching and running a Little League. From practice tips to advice on getting parent volunteers, this blog really covers everything you would ever want to know about Little League.

Written by a long time Little League Coach & board member, this blog has something for every audience. Players, coaches, team parents, you name it, there’s probably something here for you. Heck, I don’t fall into –any- of those categories and I still keep going back. After following this blog for a couple of weeks, I feel like the content really stems from a sincere desire to share his 19+ years of experience with anyone willing to listen. His blog isn’t about just winning games, but about “teaching life lessons” as he writes on the front page. In his posts he talks about ways to make the entire Little League experience better for everyone involved. After reading through some of his many posts, and conversing with him via email he comes across like the coach we all wish we could have had.

So if you’ve never heard of this blog, go check it out, and if you have heard it, then go visit it again. Whether you’re a coach, parent, player, or even just a guy fondly remembering his own Little League days after reading this post, this is the coach’s blog to read. So what are you waiting for?
